THE PROGRAM for 3, 4, 5, 6 year olds
At this development stage, music is a total experience for the child. Thus the sessions emphasize a variety of skill, including pitch awareness, auditory discrimination, the development of rhythm through speech and movement, and of melody through simple songs and singing games. Handling and using non-pitched instruments is also an important feature. Above all, the program fosters a FEELING of enjoyment for music-making with others.
The curriculum will develop age appropriate materials using speech (rhymes, poems, stories), singing (games, action songs, folk materials), movement, dance, body percussion (clapping, patschen, stamping), pitched instruments (xylophones, etc), and non-pitched instruments (bells, hand drums, triangles, etc).
PROGRAMS FOR 7-9yrs
The program further develops the speech, movement, dance, body percussion, non-pitched and pitched instruments. The children will work with and develop musical skills of concentration, pitch discrimination, listening, singing, rhythm, form, basic harmony, improvisation, music reading and playing instruments in solo and ensemble activities. A continued focus will be the development of the singing voice.
The program is an extension of ENSEMBLE I adding the soprano recorder. There is further development and exploration of harmony, improvisation and music reading with a continued focus on the singing voice.
Any child from 3-9 is welcome to experience and be part of the SING MOVE PLAY ORFF MUSIC PROGRAM. The children are grouped according to age and experience.
Parents are invited to participate and observe throughout the term. In addition, open classes will be held at the end of the each term.
Orff Schulwerk participation workshops for parents will be held from time to time, designed to give parents the opportunity to experience some of the activities on an adult level.
The 45 minute classes will be held once a week beginning in mid September and ending in May, with holiday breaks at Christmas and Easter. Class maximum size for 3 year olds is 10-12, 4 year olds is 13-14, while all other older classes are between 12-15. All materials and instruments will be supplied.
